Local SEO
Local SEO: winning the map, not just the page.
Local SEO decides who appears in the Google map pack when somebody searches nearby. Work covers the Google Business Profile, categories, service areas, citation consistency, review generation and location pages. For most local trades the map pack sends more calls than the organic results below it, and review count is the lever that moves it.
For a local business the three results in the map pack usually take more calls than everything below them combined. Getting into it is a different job from ranking a web page.
What it covers
The work, and why each part is there.
Google Business Profile
Categories, services, attributes, hours, photos and posts. The primary category alone decides which searches you are eligible for.
Reviews
Count, rating, recency and whether you reply. One of the few map-pack inputs a business can genuinely move.
Citations and NAP consistency
Your name, address and phone identical everywhere they appear. Boring, and it still matters.
Location and service-area pages
One real page per area you serve — not 600 spun ones. We know how that ends because we did it to ourselves and had to undo it.
Proximity
Map results are sorted partly by how close the searcher is to you, and no amount of work moves your building. We will tell you where that caps what is achievable.
Calls and directions
Profile actions, not vanity impressions.
Proof
What that looked like for one client.
Identified by industry rather than by name. Every figure is from the client’s own Search Console or enquiry records.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I not in the map pack?
Usually one of four things: the primary category does not match the search, the review count is far behind the businesses that are showing, the profile is incomplete, or you are simply further from the searcher than the competitors. The first three are fixable.
How many reviews do I need?
Enough to be credible against whoever is currently ranking — look at the three in the pack for your main search and aim past the lowest. For most local trades that is a two-figure number, not a four-figure one.
Do service-area pages still work?
Real ones do. Thin templated ones with the suburb swapped do not, and carry a genuine risk of being treated as doorways. We culled 617 of them off this very site in July 2026.
